Join the Site

Hello, random internet viewer! Welcome to the Join page!

This is where you can submit an application to join the Fishariah site. The rules of applying are as stated below.

Required Reading
Before you apply, there are several pages you must read, just so you know how to use the site, how to write for the site, and how to act on the site. The required reading guides are as follows.

Applying
To apply to the site, you must provide a few pieces of information. In the application box, you must write:

  • Name you wish to go by (Username, real name, etc.) (optional)
  • Pronouns (optional)
  • Degree/job related to fishkeeping (optional)
  • Your age (must be 16 or older)
  • How long you have been keeping fish/studying aquatic life for (If at all)

All pieces of information above must be listed, (bar the optional info) or your application will not be accepted. You may list the information in the application box via bullet points, in a paragraph, etc.

Now, here comes the hard part.
Below the aforementioned info, you must provide an overview care sheet of a species of aquatic life. This species can be one you've kept before, one you know lots about, or if you're a riskplayer, one you've never heard of and are going to research entirely on your own.

You are allowed to research aspects of the species that are unknown to you, however, I recommend using multiple sources since as far as fishkeeping goes, one source is usually not always correct. However, the species can NOT be one that is listed on site. If there are no species that aren't already listed on the site that you have knowledge of, you will have to do research on the required information of a species. The information Must be listed via bullet points and should be listed as follows.

  • Species common name
  • Species binomial name
  • Species lifespan
  • Adult size of species (can be a range)
  • Difficulty level of caring for species
  • Species Temperament
  • Minimum tank size for species
  • Minimum group size for species (if species can be housed alone, list this as 1)
  • Required water temperature for species (can be a range, in Fahrenheit or Celsius)
  • Required water pH for species (can be a range)

Lastly, you will need to provide a password at the end of your application to be accepted. But I'm not going to just give it to you! The password is in the required reading guide for creating pages, the Guide to Creating Pages.

Again, if the aforementioned information is not provided, your application will not be accepted. Your application will be accepted based upon the accuracy of the guide, and (somewhat) on the information originally provided.

Are you crazy???
Now, you might be thinking "Hey Azra, why do we need to provide all this information to you? It's so much work!" And to that I say: yes it is. The reason I want you to provide this information is because I want to know that you're willing to put in the effort. There are so many fishkeeping guides out there that are incorrect and lazily put together because it is clear the people who made them put no effort into it. There aren't many easy-to-access and accurate guides to multiple fish species out there, which often results in poor care for fish.

Fish are living beings and are capable of becoming severely depressed if not given proper care. These animals' lives are in our hands, and too often are fish abused and mistreated. Too often are fish thrown into a 10-gallon uncycled tank with 15 tankmates who are going to tear their fins apart. I want this website to be a guide for people who are willing to learn how to care for these animals, and if they are keeping a fish, they need to know how to do it right.

So I ask for this information from you so I know that you are willing to put in the effort to provide accurate information, willing to educate/be educated, and are willing to put in the effort to do so. I'm trying to make a difference here, but I can't do it alone. I need your help.

- Note: I apologize for the 200-character limit, I'm attempting to fix that. Until then, you can make things as short as possible. You don't have to list "pH:" in front of the species' pH level or anything like that, just list the information in a bullet-point list in the same exact order as listed above.
